The Best, the Worst, the Most and the Least from the 2023 Emmys....
...and a brief look at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards. It's been a busy 48 hours!
We assume the rescheduled 2023 Emmys landed the night after the Critics Choice Awards, and just a week after the Golden Globes, because all the appropriate venues were mysteriously booked for every other upcoming date that WOULDN’T have required the whole town to mainline... well, whatever they mainline to stay awake. (The Peacock Theater has Paw Patrol Live next weekend, and Adventure Bay moves for NO ONE.) The problem for this Emmys telecast, aside from a slew of hoarse-sounding presenters and nominees, is that when you come on the speedy heels of TWO events honoring both film and TV, your turnout -- even if it’s great -- feels like only half the gang bothered to come. And several nominees gave their third speeches in a week and second in two days, like Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Sarah Snook, and Kieran Culkin1. It must be very weird to try and say something heartfelt to a room full of people who literally JUST heard you say something ELSE heartfelt.
