Before we get into the recap, I want to point out that for a long moment I had to search my soul to figure out whether I had hallucinated “Marshall Peepope,” or simply wanted the name to be true so badly that I made it up. But no. It WAS real. Not until Sept. 28, after episode five aired, did anyone edit the Only Murders in the Building Wikipedia to reflect that “Marshall Peepope” is in fact “Marshall P. Pope,” which this episode then confirms. When I saw it written out, I felt betrayed. I felt hoodwinked. Mostly, I felt insane, so I am relieved that articles and forums and Wikipedia edit histories back up my initial research on this point1 — however, not to be a total peepope about it, I HATE this for us. In a world of Bev Melon and Charles-Haden Savage and the Brothers Sisters and Vince Fish and Sazz frazzin’ Pataki, there is absolutely a Marshall Peepope. I will only accept this alternative if the “P” in fact stands for “Pee,” a la Homer Jay Simpson.
