The preppy cookbook is an oxymoron. Not much cooking goes on, unless there’s household staff. It’s Triscuits and rat cheese and whatever the caterers deliver and set up. So, that one is out. As a fan of classic movies, I voted for the Hollywood cookbook but I can see the support for Glamour.
As someone who went to boarding school in Connecticut in the late 19602/early 1970s, I concur. Preppy food is not for anyone who enjoys garlic and spices (or flavor in general).
I just read an awesome book about the history of Reality TV called Cue the Sun by Emily Nussbaum. It talks about the Dating Game and touches on the story of the serial killer. I think she says that casting was done by a woman who just went out and looked for hot men in bars and invited them to be on the show. There was no research done at all into backgrounds of contestants. And that obviously lasted for awhile into the genre. Hopefully it's improved some now!
So. Umm. Do I have to see Murders in the Building? Love all the players. Is it a must to stay "current?" It's a decent amount of seasons to catch up on. Signed, a must be current bitch
I say jump into the pool. It's such a cute show, with a lot of heart, and it moves at a pretty fast clip. I've enjoyed all of it tremendously, but Season 3 was definitely my favorite.
If you do decide to do so, my advice would be to sign on for at least two seasons (by which point you'll be hooked). I say that only because the first season was the darkest. It still has it's wryly funny / ridiculous / lighter moments, but it was also moody and lightly ominous. But after that, they get sillier and sillier. There are parts of this current season that are outright unhinged - in the best possible way - and you can see all the characters having more and more fun with it as the seasons go on.
This is not a slam on him, truly. But if he has gone mostly sober, staying productively busy is smart. Building things for your girl is also smart. And it makes me like her more if this is the thing she wants versus a flashy dinner or jewelry or a new car.
Thanks for the review of Woman of the Hour - I did not press play over the weekend because I didn't want to take the chance that it was just another slasher-of-women movie. Sounds like it's not and so now it's on the list for this weekend!
I thought the movie carefully walked that line of showing the horror that those women and girls endured without making it the focus. The actor who played Alcala was incredibly effective.
Steve’s instagram post makes sense in the context of this week’s episode. I’m not sure if it’s art imitating life or the other way around but I’m 100% here for it.
One of my closest friends edited the Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous cookbook! She got a company award for it to boot. It was long enough that I regret to say I don't remember any gossip while she was working on it.
Ali Wentworth wrote The WASP Cookbook—it is mostly Triscuits, which is absolutely accurate. I once went to a wedding in Maine where there was an unbelievably well-stocked open bar (who drinks Galliano EVER, much less at a wedding reception in Maine?!) and literally NO food other than wedding cake. A bridesmaid and I snuck off to the bathroom with a second slice; otherwise we’d have had to eat our shoes.
I think the obvious answer to the Tony's host is Hugh Jackman. He's hosted 4 times before and was stellar every time. Also - the ceremony is back at Radio City Music Hall (where it belongs!) and he will be in the middle of a monthly concert residency there from January to now October (it was extended). It's a no brainer! Also - I would like to see a taste of what I paid a fair amount of money to go to in July with my mom :)

First off, let me just say how much I loooooooove these deep dives into the world of vintage cookbooks. They are some of my favorite things (both the books themselves and the writing about them). Any of those choices would be stellar, but I had to vote for Beverly Hills because that cover is objectively fabulous.
Allow me to humbly submit for future consideration a vintage cookbook I have in my own collection: The Nancy Drew Cookbook: Clues to Good Cooking (1973 edition). It seems like a perfect fit for the Broads. Larkspur Lane Sandwiches, anyone? Tapping Heels Griddle Cakes?
This makes me think of another literary tie-in; I have the Little House Cookbook, which my mother gave me as a gift when I was a kid. I've certainly never cooked from it, but it makes for a fascinating read, as it has recipes recreating all the many many foods mentioned in the series (by which I mean the Laura Ingalls Wilder books, not the TV show), with passages from the books about each food or dish and the accompanying original illustrations by Garth Williams. (I also have the Winnie-the-Pooh cookbook, which is much less literal, but also includes some of the original E.H. Shepard illustrations; again, from the books, not the Disney version. And plenty of honey and British treats.)
I have the little house cookbook and the pooh cookbook! I also have the pooh party bood and the anne of green gables cookbook. I haven't looked at any of them except the little house one in years
I have the Anne of Green Gables cookbook! I remember that I painstakingly handwrote a letter in my very best cursive and brought it to our local Waldenbooks asking them to order it for me. I remember really liking the illustrations (but not the recipes so much). I also still have a small Golden-Books-style Strawberry Shortcake cookbook!
It feels relevant to the interests of my kindred spirits in Fug Nation to share that I have the Anne of Green Gables cookbook, by Kate McDonald, Lucy Maud Montgomery’s granddaughter. It is everything you would want it to be.
!!! I own the The Glamour Magazine After Five Cookbook ! I bought it many many years ago at a library book sale! It's delightful but sometimes frustratingly vague on instructions. I did get a nice recipe for Toad in the Hole and some other things from it. The menus are hilarious and always end with coffee. If that one wins I will totally flip through alongside.

But that’s the fun of that book is that is shouldn’t be as big as it is.
I voted preppy!!

They’re in season 4 now and their 10 episode seasons.

love that it gets BETTER. Like HACKS
It seems like a lot but they’re 30-minute episodes and only 10 per season. Absolutely worth watching!

thanks - best reviews for tv watching the next two weeks. YIKES
To answer your question, yes, Tom Holland is perfect. I will not be convinced otherwise. Nobody spoil this for me. :)

Their couple name is Merlin. Bc they’re clearly magic.
Oh my god this is it. — H

Same. I'm tired of murdering women as the basis for entertainment. But I might try this one, based on H&J’s review.
I hope I didn’t steer you astray. It’s affecting but they don’t glorify it. -H

Agreed, and the girl at the end is a relief. I literally had to scan ahead to make sure but it was very well done.
Okay he is not a song & dance man, but Bryan Cranston for Tonys. He has warmth and energy.
I was thinking Jason Alexander. Remember that amazing song and dance number he did at the Emmy Awards?
Good idea. He has been so quiet lately.

I can’t believe Oliver’s first love, the theatre, didn’t make an appearance by at least a mention of his Splash debacle.

I'm pretty sure the gingerbread we made was from the Little House Cookbook and it was good!
I have an Elvis cookbook ‘are you hungry tonight’
I think I made their wedding cake once (just a normal cake amt)

Personally I think they should all win, but that's easy for ME to say. -H
Ha ha ha, this was my feeling, too.
I agree...! Where is the button for the Review ALL the Vintage Cookbooks Fund? :-D
I have so many left over from my grandma, didn't know people collected these! I mean, besides her.
I would lay down my life for Sheryl Meep.
I was thinking John Mulaney for the Tonys. He's been on Broadway.
