The Bests, the Worsts, the Mosts and the Leasts of the 2024 SAG Awards

Netflix officially entered the chat on Saturday night by hosting the SAG Awards on its actual streaming service -- as opposed to its YouTube page, which is where they landed last year -- and, by the by, the Broads had a really lively chat alongside the telecast. We worried maybe it would be the two of us, and then tumbleweeds, but y’all showed up and made working on a Saturday night very entertaining, so thank you!
The whole affair was interesting to compare with both the traditional broadcast TV awards and with E!’s red carpet show. In terms of the former, obviously the SAGs have the edge over the Oscars in terms of runtime because there is way less on the agenda. And when we covered the SAGs last year, as well as the 2023 BAFTAs, we admittedly were drawn to that commercial-free zip; this year, Netflix even borrowed conceptually from that BAFTAs telecast, mimicking the effect of commercial breaks by having Tan France hang out backstage and interview people after they’d won.
