Olympics Day 13 (8/7): Will The American Synchronized Swimmers Pull This Off?!
Plus, lots and lots of track and field events, including our next look at Noah Lyles.
We say this every day, but WHAT A DAY yesterday was! Does anything beat the thrill of seeing American Cole Hocker come DRAMATICALLY from behind to win the men’s 1500 meter,1 with his teammate (and Notre Dame grad) Yared Nuguse nearly sneaking in for the silver but still winning a thrilling bronze. Hocker does have a really good kick, but still this was NOT EXPECTED — I would have been thrilled to see an American in third! — and my husband and I spent the entire last 100 meters screaming. It was awesome. Also awesome? Gabby Thomas, who won the 200m with the kind of ease and relaxation I bring to turning on my television.

I’ll Always Call It Synchronized Swimming: The team finals dive in at 3:30 p.m. on NBC. It seems like the Americans have a shot, as they’re current in second place. (The Russians are VERY good at artistic swimming so them not being here is to everyone’s advantage.)
