The storied September Issue of Vogue is out now, and far from being the year’s crowning edition of the Fashion Bible, it feels more like a fizzy, disposable romp through Vanity Fair: Anna Wintour handed the cover profile to Blake Lively, and then used the issue itself to promote both her movie(s) and Deadpool vs. Wolverine by having Blake and Hugh Jackman pose for “a sublimely elegant, Hitchcock-inspired fashion fantasia” directed by Baz Luhrmann1. There is nary a shred of personality to this; it is blandy bland and celebrates the necklace more than it does her. It’s like she’s flashing it at someone as if to confirm that, yes, she has stolen it successfully, and soon will be leaving out the side door.
