Dear Future Traitors casts: It’s wary, not weary. You are WARY of people.

I understand. I do. You’re not the first ones, nor the only. And you might truly also be “weary” of folks in the sense that you are tired of their faces and/or personalities, but that is not the context in which you are all using it. You are trepidatious. You are suspicious. Mistrustful. You might even be leery, which rhymes with “weary” at least, but mostly you are WARY.

No, I don’t know why that word isn’t pronounced “war-y,” nor do I know why “weary” has the word “wear” in it and yet rhymes with “cheery” instead of say, “hairy.” English is a mystery. Truly, every “rule” has 300 exceptions and very few of them even match up with one another. But I am growing weary of your “wary” woes. We can get this, y’all. We can. Let’s do this together. Let’s be the change. ¹
