Broads Nation, we did it. We have finally arrived at arguably the most entertaining four consecutive days of the year, the first two rounds of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, blessedly overlapping with the first two rounds of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament. (My alma mater, UCLA, has made it to both tourneys, but is much more likely — knock on wood — to do better in the women’s tournament, because our women are extremely good against everyone except perhaps Juju Watkins, and the dude Bruins are streaky at best.) IT’S A LOT OF BASKETBALL and we’re gonna be right here for all of it. Need to shriek about buzzer beaters? Want to publicly groan that your brackets are already messed up? Need a place to gloat that you called some unexpected upsets? Want to make a sidebar note that someone has great hair or is wearing a cool blazer? WE ARE HERE.
A note: Unless things get super unwieldy in terms of the number of comments, we will try using this as the ongoing basketball chat all weekend so that you’re not getting too many emails from us at once. Ergo, bookmark this page or save the email so you can keep coming back.
The first men’s game tips shortly, at 9:15 a.m. PT as #9 Creighton takes on #8 Louisville, which should be a very good game. The women will be wrapping up their First Four games today, and then their first round begins Friday at 9:30 a.m. PT with #6 Michigan vs. the winner of Iowa State vs. Princeton. (You can see complete schedules for the men here, and the women here.) Join me in a rousing chorus of “One Shining Moment,” and then join everyone in the open thread below.
