What do Ellen, Anna Delvey, and Fyre Fest All Have In Common?

I regret to inform you that Ellen DeGeneres, one of the most notoriously terrible bosses in Hollywood, has a new Netflix special in which she complains about being canceled for being one of the most notoriously terrible bosses in Hollywood. Yesterday, I watched it so you don’t have to — and, to be clear, you do not have to, and in fact should not, unless you are a big fan of lengthy jokes about pigeons, and generally not taking accountability.
Unfortunately, even an Ellen superfan would be hard-pressed to compliment this special; however you feel about her, the biggest issue with For Your Approval is that it just is not funny. And Ellen, as the opening segment reminds us, used to be very funny. In this soft-focus pre-taped section, Current Ellen sadfaces as she watches clips of her younger self doing things like discussing coming out with Oprah, or being Dory from Finding Nemo, both moments that are an important part of her comedy legacy, and the latter of which certainly seems design…
