We Read Law Roach's New Book So You Don't Have To

Last week, Law Roach came out with his first book, How to Build a Fashion Icon: Notes on Confidence from the World’s Only Image Architect. My library almost immediately had a copy, so I decided to dig into it and see what, exactly, he tells us about building a fashion icon, apart from, “Know Zendaya.”
First, while I like the joy he’s projecting on the cover, I am very confused by the pose. Why is his left foot suspended in the air? Are we to think he is dancing? Squashing a bug? Is he clutching his jacket because he’s afraid the wind machine hitting his hair is going to blow it open? The whole thing looks a bit like he made it himself in Photoshop, and as if it were a little rushed — and I might argue the book itself is, too, designed to seize on Roach’s current status rather than really reflect on it. The book is maybe one-quarter memoir and three-quarters a very light and not particularly inventive form of self-help. You definitely do not need to consult it for an approach you haven’…
