ALERT! News broke last week that we are apparently getting a third Downton Abbey movie. The messenger was none other than Imelda Staunton, who appeared in the first two films, and — possibly more pertinently in terms of being tapped into behind-the-scenes Downton gossip — is also married to Jim Carter, who plays Carson. It is here that I must confess that, although I loved the series and quite enjoyed the first movie, I somehow missed 2022’s Downton Abbey: A New Era. I have no excuse. This oversight might have been because I wasn’t totally back inside movie theatres when it came out, but it also might have been because I’m annoyed they didn’t take my suggestion to make the Dowager Countess a vampire and instead (spoiler) apparently finally did kill her off — which I suppose is only fair given that she was like 116 by that point in the story.
