The Bests, Worsts, Mosts, and Leasts of the Met Gala
At least two people dressed as a literal cat!
The Karl Lagerfeld-themed Met Gala tried its best to go out with a bang. After a parade of vintage Karl designs, homages to his aesthetic, and even an actual cat costume, Jeremy Pope was very nearly the perfect coda to the night in his massive custom Balmain cape that was also a giant portrait of Lagerfeld. Then a few more people trickled onto the museum, Cardi B included, and the white carpet cleared... and we waited. And waited. And waited. For one more person, whom we were promised would be worth it. (Everyone agreed this had to be Rihanna.) (It was.) The hosts of Vogue’s livestream vamped, then flailed, and at about 9:23 p.m. EST they signed off with a whimper and not even a whisper of the guest they had promised. A cockroach scuttled into the venue instead.
