There are a lot of sad notes in Severance, including the ACTUAL morose musical ones played in the theme song, so why is it that Milkshake is the one whose plight burrows the deepest into my pit of feelings? Or as he might put it by the end of the episode, “He messes me up.”
Milkshake: Let’s start with him, because his scenes were incredibly affecting?!? He spends the episode taking his performance review to painful heart — although not before he puts Miss Huang in her place by a) telling her that she has to watch the severed floor for him that afternoon but ONLY from her actual desk, NOT his, which she interprets as the punishment it is, and b) encouraging her to focus on her job by “eradicating from your essence childish folly.” He then closes himself away in the supply closet, takes an enormous container of paper clips, and forces himself to apply them to an inhumane stack of paperwork in the correct and desirable way — to the point that his hands tremble from repetitive stress when …
