Olympics Day 4 (7/29): Can the U.S. Men Sneak Onto The Gymnastics Podium?
Plus, more fencing, and canoe slalom, and a whole load of swimming!
It’s nice to see that Notre Dame fencing — the Stabbin’ Irish — is still so strong. Alum Lee Kiefer took home her second consecutive gold in the women’s foil yesterday; the only other woman to win fencing gold at the Olympics, Mariel Zagunis, ALSO went to ND. Shout out to the alma mater! Gotta get in my fist-pumps while I can, before football season breaks my heart again. The USA’s Lauren Scruggs finished second, and Canada won its first-ever fencing medal when Eleanor Harvey nabbed bronze.

Today at 11:30 a.m. ET, the U.S.A. men’s gymnastics team takes a swing at the podium in the team competition, after qualifying in fifth place. The gap is preeeeetty big between the top two and everyone else, but I suppose anything can happen; it’s why they play the games, as they say. Here’s how the table looked after qualifiers:
