This title of this episode, “Adaptation,” works on multiple levels. Adaptation is the Charlie Kaufman movie in which Nicolas Cage plays screenwriter twins — connective tissue: The Brothers Sisters, plus screenwriter Marshall Peepope— and in which Meryl Streep plays Susan Orlean, a writer who is arrested for attempted murder. Connective tissue: murder, writers, and of course Meryl Streep. Also, in Adaptation, Donald Kaufman at one point doubles for Charlie (GET IT) and his given name is Charles. So that’s TWO MORE links. Sadly, no one is murdered by alligator in this episode, THAT WE KNOW OF, but it’s possible somebody in this group of people feels emotionally murdered by the price of Lacoste clothing and that would be close enough.
The victim: It seems like we might be inching closer to the intended target actually being Sazz. But this episode made me wonder: What if both Sazz AND Charles are/were on the murderer’s hit list?
