Olympics Day 8 (8/2): Athletics Enters The Chat
Can Marchand win another gold in the pool? Can China sweep synchro diving?
These may not be the Americans you expected to see atop the post today, but they deserve it!
Lee and Lauren came in first and second in the women’s foil individual event — making Lauren the first Black American woman to win any kind of medal in the sport — and then they grabbed their teammates and beat Italy in the team final. NO U.S. fencing team had won gold until they did, ever, and it’s just the second medal for a U.S. women’s team in the event’s 64-year history. Italy has been dominant this season and this was an amazing achievement by the U.S. Completely awesome.
