We’ve known since he announced his surprise resignation on a summer Friday in June that Edward Enninful would take his final bow at British Vogue with the March 2024 issue — the cover of which, by their usual schedule, should be released… well, probably sometime in the first two weeks of February? Which gives us loads of time to speculate on whom he’ll choose to be the face of his swan song.
I don’t know how often it is that we have so much lead time before a person’s exit. This is the magazine equivalent of a show announcing before its final season that it’s going to end and do it on its own terms — a move that often inspires me to start watching said show, because I am fascinated with the choices the writers make in those situations, and how often they are letdowns. Succession is the rare beast that stuck the landing; I’d also give points to This Is Us and Breaking Bad. I can’t entirely remember the rest of the last season of The Americans, but damn, that finale was incredible. But…
