The best holiday present of all came last week: a third-season pickup for The Gilded Age, coming God knows when. It’s a pity it got buried in a holiday news drop — conventional wisdom says you release the news the day of the finale, right? So that people make sure to tune in, knowing there will be payoffs to come? But I don’t want to quibble, when we’re going to get a whole new buffet of episodes with Bertha’s madcap hats; poor Gladys being pimped out to the Duke; Larry and Marian possibly trying to court each other whilst Agnes is undercut by her sister and probably also even MORE annoyed that she’d have to run in Bertha’s circle; Peggy finding happiness in any way, shape, or form that it comes, but HOPEFULLY via professional accolades, Audra McDonald singing a lot even if the scene does not require it, and then, a hot love affair with someone who is NOT married this time; more clock shenanigans, a phrase I wouldn’…
