There are a lot of reasons to raise a skeptical eyebrow at Frasier, the Paramount+ revival of the hit sitcom Frasier starring Kelsey Grammer as Frasier. But I made the loudest disapproving noise when Dr. Crane swanned into a pub trivia night having boned up on areas of weakness, and spoke incredulously about what he’d learned of the history of the Boston KELTICS. You could convince me Frasier Crane is annoyed by the team’s actual pronunciation. You could definitely convince me that, back in his Cheers era, he’d haughtily told Cliff Clavin that the word dates back to the Indo-European peoples of ancient times and derives its hard-K pronunciation from the Greek Keltoi and Latin Celtae, and that Cliff countered that its bastardization has legitimate origins in the French Celtique, and Frasier stomped out in a tizzy.
