At last, awards season 2025 — a weird year for movies, and so far also everything else! — is drawing to a close. But didn’t we have fun? From the exciting Best Actor upset at the SAGs (will it happen again today? Is it still even an upset?) to a surprisingly entertaining Golden Globes telecast, we all had a good time. And here we are at the big enchilada, the Oscars. (I wish I were eating a big enchilada, but that’s a me problem.)
The ceremony itself is on ABC today at 7 p.m. ET/4 PT, and will stream live on both ABC.com and Hulu. Conan O’Brien is hosting, and we can only hope he performs his Norwegian pop hit “Velkommen til Klubben.” I’m not kidding. That song is my jam. It’s supposed to go three and a half hours — the telecast, not Conan’s song — but if I were hosting a party, I’d make people bet on how far over it will run.
As far as pre-shows go, E!’s got all-day programming, but Live From the Red Carpet kicks off at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT and will be, like the Globes, captained by Zuri Hall. Keltie Knight and Will Marfuggi get to huddle atop the Ripley's Believe It or Not building across the street, a long-running logistical situation which still always reads like a joke. In an interesting development, Christian Siriano — the only person on E! to ever express a mildly critical take on someone’s look since the death of Joan Rivers — will return to their fashion round-table, along with old friend Zanna Roberts Rassi and two new additions: Sunday Night Football host Maria Taylor, and Insecure’s Yvonne Orji. I’m sure there will be a ton of other local news pre-shows and live streams, so drop whatever you’re watching into the comments.
E! gets the cord cut on them at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT, because that’s when ABC’s official red carpet coverage kicks off and they have a monopoly on that final half hour. Julianne Hough is back as co-host, but they’ve swapped out Vanessa Hudgens (who has a little baby at home) with Jesse Palmer, who I’m sure will be blandly fine. I accidentally misread this news as Jesse Plemons, a.k.a. Mr. Kirsten Dunst, and I was like, “This is a TURN OF EVENTS from Landry!” Alas. Maybe next year!
Before we get into our live chat down in the comments, some important business: The results of Thursday’s first annual Broads Nation Oscar Ballot. These are the films and folks you think WILL win, and not so much your personal choices, and they are:
