As the days grow long, and Memorial Day draws near, it’s only natural for a person’s fancy to turn… to beach books. ‘Tis the season of sitting by a pool reading a novel, or sitting on a plane reading a novel, or sitting in front of a fan reading a novel. God bless the Summer Book, which people all over the country toss into their beach bag and maybe actually read or maybe just carry around, but either way are happy to have in tow.
Time will tell what the book of the summer will be this year — and please weigh in if you have a guess! – but I thought it might be fun to get into the official DWB Hot Tub Time Machine (the most fun form of time travel, with apologies to the DeLorean) and dig into the Books of the Summer of the 1980s. A decade of high-legged bathing suits and tanning oil and big hair, and of Danielle Steel and Jackie Collins and piles and piles of spy novels.
