Thematically, this is the encapsulation of the Severance finale:
It was an effective mix of what Severance does so well: aura of menace, enchanting verbiage, quirk, tension, humor, goat-related heroism, Burning This Motherfucker To The Ground, and personal stakes. I enjoy dissecting the clues to the mythology, but at a certain point I do like to let go of that and bask in the chemistry and the writing and not worry too much about what adds up and what doesn’t — because I fear this show is backing itself into some corners that may not entirely make sense. I hope it doesn’t become the architect of its own doom on that front. If you’ve ever read the Neal Shusterman Scythe or Unwind trilogies, I often found myself in book three thinking, “Whoa, how did we get HERE from THERE? I think I liked THERE better,” and I’m crossing my fingers that I won’t be doing that in Severance season three as well.
