We Deserve Better Billboard Music Awards, Less "Big Little Lies," and More "Love Island Games"

The Billboard Music Awards were Sunday night — not that you would know this, necessarily, because what was previously a big production has turned into a weird, pre-taped afterthought that dribbled out on social media. Music’s middest night is apparently a heartbeat away from biting the dust, which is a distinct bummer for those of us who thrive on a second-tier awards. Which is…well, at least the two of us.
The Billboards don’t have as long a history as, say, the Grammys, and are six years younger even than the VMAs. They began in 1990 — please enjoy this slideshow of fashion moments from those days, including Shania and Mariah and Xtina and TLC and freaking Nelson — and aired on network TV until 2006, before being yanked for 5 years and then resurrected by Dick Clark Productions in 2011.
