Real Hotel Shows and Fake Movie Posters
The algorithm still sucks, but actual REAL human-made content does not!
You know what I realized about myself the other day? I’m a mega-fan of a very specific micro-genre of television: TV Shows Set at Hotels. This stands to reason; I love hotels in general. I like staying at hotels. (I do not want to stay at an AirBnB! I want room service, or, at the very least, a vending machine in the hallway.) I like reading about hotels. As a child, I used to pore through my mother’s AAA Guide to California and the Southwest and decide which motels I’d stop at if I were driving to, say, Phoenix. I love shopping at hotels, and this applies as much to their gift boutiques as to museums — what if I need a branded robe?? I love lounging at hotels, in their bars and at their pools, and, like any right-thinking person, I appreciate tiny free toiletries. Just a whiff of Malin + Goetz rum body wash takes me back to staying at the SoHo Grand in the mid-aughts when Heather and I got to go to New York to cover Fashion Week.
