The other day, my husband and I were looking for something easy-breezy to watch — a light lift. We decided on The Dink, the Apple TV series starring Jake Johnson as a washed up tennis player who, per the previews we kept seeing, blah blah something something pickleball. Well, imagine our surprise when we fired this up and discovered it was actually a movie and not a TV series at all.1 (It just felt like a series from the preview!) No matter: The Dink still fulfilled the brief. It’s only 104 minutes long, which is exactly how long a TV movie about a washed up tennis player who blah blah blah pickleball ought to be, and all the blah blah blah pickleball stuff is reasonably cute, even if you do not play or even really care about pickleball that much.

In short: Jake Johnson is (as noted) a washed-up tennis player who works as a pro at the tennis club his dad…owns? His dad (Ed Harris, always good at playing a mean authority figure) seems to be VERY powerful at this club and lives in an house…
