There’s a new book out by EW writer Samantha Highfill about The Vampire Diaries — a CW soap opera about (yes) vampires that was AMAZING for like five seasons and then kinda moderately interesting for three — that reveals that the show’s star, Nina Dobrev, was paid less than her two male costars the entire time despite being OBJECTIVELY GREAT on that show and ABSOLUTELY of equal, if not more, importance to the story. Sorry for all the caps lock used in that sentence but every word of it is true!

Look, I get why Dobrev was paid less than her co-star (and at one point boyfriend) Ian Somerhalder when The Vampire Diaries started in 2009. Somerhalder was coming off of Lost; Dobrev was coming off of Degrassi. Sorry, Canada, but you can also see the thought process here.
