Happy Met Gala Monday, Broads!
If you need a primer on what’s happening tonight, we ran it down last week! In short: This year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s Spring Exhibition (that’s so many nouns in a row) is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” which highlights many very rare pieces from the Met’s permanent collection deemed “far too fragile to ever be worn again.” Somewhat confusingly, this year the dress code is not the same as the exhibit; this time, it is “The Garden of Time,” inspired by J.G. Ballard's 1962 short story of the same title. Your celeb hosts this evening are Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth — and I think I speak for all of us when I say that I can’t wait to see how Ben Affleck choses to interpret “The Garden of Time.” Maybe he’ll show up dressed like Cogsworth, and end up in a feud with noted costume-hater Tom Ford.
Today on Go Fug Yourself, we are featuring galleries of both Zendaya’s and Jennifer’s past appearances at the Met Gala, in case you’re curious how whatever they wear tonight fits into the array. As far as other potential guests go, it’s mostly just speculation at this point — so please come speculate with us! Guests are meant to start trickling in around 5:30 p.m. ET — and, as usual, we will be hosting an open thread here to discuss! We plan to be watching all the arrivals on Vogue.com, or on whichever of the magazine’s socials that have the easiest-to-navigated set-up. Open threads like this one are perks for paid subscribers, and we’d love to have you join us if you’ve never done it before!
Let’s get talking! Fingers crossed that someone wears something absolutely bonkers. (This seems like a safe bet.)
The Times is driving me nuts! It won’t let me get to the beginning of their coverage.
