For some godforsaken reason, a person who lives in my building has taken to pulling the fire alarm at 5 a.m., even though nothing is on fire. As you can imagine, this is a huge pain in the ass at best, and it’s very stressful for everyone who lives here, especially the people who have to corral their little kids and/or pets to evacuate the building. (I will say that one child who lives here seems to find the entire exercise very exciting and I am happy for him.) However, there is a bright side. No, it’s not that I am starting a podcast called Only Vandals in the Building wherein my husband and I track down who’s pulling the alarm — although I have ruled out four of the 28 units and have also placed an order for a huge whiteboard on wheels. It’s that getting randomly rousted from my bed at 5 a.m. has given me an unwelcome, ample opportunity to test my stash of under-eye patches. (I am a daily user of the Dr. Brandt eye bag cream but sometimes you need more hands on deck.)
